The Energy Awareness Nursery Rhyme
November 16, 2006At what age should children learn about saving energy? This is the question posed by the release of the first nursery rhyme themed around energy conservation.
Commissioned by E.ON UK, the UK’s largest integrated power and gas company, the rhyme is being made to raise energy awareness amongst young children. A contemporary version of the traditional nursery rhyme, the composition addresses one of the most pressing issues facing society.
Apart from singing a song, how else do we get children to learn energy conservation? I suppose we need to do it by starting with the simple things, like: PLEASE SWITCH OFF THAT LIGHT!
Have a Sing-along, why don’t you

The Energy Rhyme - lyrics
Flicker yellow, glowing red
Blinking blue and green
The eyes that watch us in the dark
Twinkling with their tiny spark
Their naughty games unseen.
Day by day, hour by hour
Beware the sneaky draining power
Of gremlins with grim appetite
That hum and wink throughout the night
Our energy devour.
Flicker yellow, glowing red
Blinking blue and green
They’re eating all our energy
Leaving less for you and me
Their greedy game is mean.
But there’s a simple way to rid
The house of what we fear:
Turn off the switch, see eyes go dim,
And make them disappear.
Turn off the switch, see eyes go dim,
And make them disappear.
